Issue Seven:
Autumn 2010
Some say that autumn is the finest time for food. Hedgerows burst with berries and robust comfort foods like squashes, spuds and sweet parsnips nudge summer's frilly lettuce leaves into submission.
It's an exciting time for food-lovers who can take advantage of the glut of food festivals across the nation which burst into season too.
In fq this quarter we meet some of the people behind local festivals as well as doing our usual bit to bring to your attention to food trends, producers and chefs.
Ever committed to your culinary pleasure we track down some new eating places - not least Graeme's Cuthell's nice-looking new brasserie on the Quayside at North Shields.
Once there he'll be showing the people of the region skills which have been savoured by the likes of The Beckhams, Mick Jagger, Kylie and Judi Dench to name a few - when he was private chef for Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
We delve into that rather serene world of afternoon tea too. There are few things as decadent as an afternoon spent lingering over the an overflowing cake stand with its glorious abundance of scones, pastries, and crust-free sandwiches.
It's the new cocktail hour - maybe because it feels such an affordable treat in these recession-hit times? We take a visit to the official 'best' tearoom in the country to find the most sophisticated teapots in town.
And student food. No don't cover your eyes. They might be poor and clueless in a culinary way but there is hope of nurturing a new generation of foodies with our brilliant student recipes ideas. They're cheap, nutritious and inspiring for all - a twist on beans on toast, the kebab and a Pot Noodle. See - something for everyone. Feast and enjoy.
